Pick your date: the sunset, the golden hour, the blue hour and your hour at Kamakura, Hase-dera, in local time.
Times are Kamakura local time (Asia/Tokyo), worked out from the sun’s position for this place (the NOAA method), good to about a minute on a flat horizon. Golden hour is the last hour before sunset; blue hour runs from sunset to the end of civil twilight.

Rain-dark stone steps, two thousand hydrangeas, and Yuigahama Bay slowly opening up in the gaps between them.
In the reel: A couple, she in a pink yukata under a red paper umbrella, climbs rain-wet stone steps at Hase-dera between lantern-lit hydrangeas, the lit seaside town below under a full moon.
Hase-dera is at 3-11-2 Hase, a 5-minute walk from Enoden Hase Station, and its Hydrangea Path really does frame Yuigahama Bay. But in hydrangea season the gates close at 17:30, and the only night opening is the late-autumn illumination, so the drawn frame splits in two: June hydrangeas by day plus blue hour by the sea, or lantern-lit steps under a November moon. We found no pagoda here; that part is the illustrator's.
Late May to late June for hydrangeas (the paid path period ran 6–26 June in 2025 and opened 5 June in 2026). Late November to early December for the night illumination (22 Nov–7 Dec in 2025; the temple posts each season's dates on hasedera.jp).
The hour: Book the 08:00 slot for the path in soft, overcast rainy-season light. At Yuigahama the sun sets at 18:59 on 19 June 2027 and blue hour runs 18:59–19:29 (our own calculation). The full moon is Sat 19 June 2027, rising in the east-southeast over Sagami Bay about the time the sun sets (our own calculation).
Avoid: Expecting night hydrangeas: last entry is 17:00 from April to June. Late-morning slots at peak bloom, when the path fills.
The 15th of each month, local time.
