Pick your date: the sunset, the golden hour, the blue hour and your hour at Kolkata, College Square Durga Puja, in local time.
Times are Kolkata local time (Asia/Kolkata), worked out from the sun’s position for this place (the NOAA method), good to about a minute on a flat horizon. Golden hour is the last hour before sunset; blue hour runs from sunset to the end of civil twilight.

At blue hour on College Square, a whole pandal of light lies down in the pool, and half of Kolkata crowds in to watch it.
In the reel: A couple in a white kurta and red saree sit with their backs to us on the stone steps of the College Square tank, facing the lit Durga Puja pandal and its reflection among diyas and night crowds.
The place is real. The College Square Sarbojanin pandal goes up each year beside the College Square Swimming Pool in Vidyasagar Udyan, on College Street, and its lights in the water are the puja's trademark. The pool is fenced and visitors follow a queue route, so plan to stand at the railing rather than sit on the steps at the water. The floating diyas, the clock tower and the stars are the drawing's own.
Durga Puja week only: in 2026, Shashthi Sat 17 Oct through Dashami Wed 21 Oct. Saptami to Navami are the busiest nights.
The hour: Blue hour, 17:10–17:35. Sunset at the pool is 17:09 on Shashthi, 17 October 2026 (our own calculation); the sky stays navy for the next twenty-five minutes and the pandal is already lit.
Avoid: Late night on Saptami to Navami, when the sky goes flat black and the queues thicken. Open flames in the crowd. Windy moments, which break up the reflection.
The 15th of each month, local time.
