Pick your date: the sunset, the golden hour, the blue hour and your hour at Bellagio, in local time.
Times are Bellagio local time (Europe/Rome), worked out from the sun’s position for this place (the NOAA method), good to about a minute on a flat horizon. Golden hour is the last hour before sunset; blue hour runs from sunset to the end of civil twilight.

From Varenna's lakeside walk, Bellagio lights up across the dark water one window at a time while the sky over it turns violet.
In the reel: A couple sits from behind at the end of a wooden jetty beside a moored rowboat, looking across the lake at a lit hillside town with a bell tower beneath mountains and a crescent moon at blue hour.
The lit town is Bellagio, about 3 km across the water, seen from Varenna's Passeggiata degli Innamorati, where walkways sit out over the lake above moored boats. The literal jetty is the reel stay's private dock, which is for guests only. In summer the orange glow sits to the right of Bellagio rather than behind it, so above the town you get violet sky, pink clouds and, on the right evenings, the crescent.
Early August to early September, when the young crescent sits over Bellagio. May and June crescents set too far to the right.
The hour: Sunset +15 to +40 minutes, facing south-southwest: 21:01–21:26 on Fri 6 Aug and 20:59–21:24 on Sat 7 Aug 2027, 20:09–20:34 on Sun 5 Sep 2027 (our own calculation).
Avoid: The days around full moon, which bring no crescent. Staying in Menaggio without checking the last ferry back. Expecting the sunset glow directly behind Bellagio in summer.
The 15th of each month, local time.
